Barisan 2 Porphyry Projects
East Asia Minerals controls four porphyry style gold-copper projects on its Barisan 2 properties in Aceh Province, North Sumatra. Three of these projects host partially drilled historic non-NI43-101 compliant resources, and the fourth has strong historic trench mineralization. The known mineralization is interpreted to represent the higher levels of a typical gold-copper porphyry system. Pacific Rim porphyries typically exhibit great vertical extent and the Company is optimistic that further exploration has good chances for additional success.
Previous limited exploration by two major mining companies in the mid 1990s at Barisan 2 property identified three classically zoned, partially explored copper-gold systems that are associated with 500 metre x 300 metre diorite-tonalite porphyry stocks. Historical (non NI43-101 compliant) resources for these are quoted as tonnes per vertical 100 metres and are based on limited drilling:
Upper Tengkereng (P2) 41 Million tonnes at 0.24% copper and, 0.25 g/t gold
Lower Tengkereng (P3) 15 Million tonnes at 0.16% copper and 0.38 g/t gold
Upper Ise-Ise (P4) 10 Million tonnes at 0.20% copper and 0.17 g/t gold
At Upper Tengkereng, EAS work in 2007 defined a series of north to northeast trending dilation features that contain the better copper values. Assay highlights from 105 rock channel samples include;
51.0 metres at 0.12 g/t gold, 0.12% copper and 90 ppm molybdenum, and
2.0 metres at 1.46 g/t gold, 0.73% copper and 582 ppm molybdenum.
Better gold grades are found in an east-west fault that dissects the porphyry mineralization and includes 15.0 metres of 0.51g/t gold, and 35.0 metres of 0.76 g/t gold, including 5.0 metres of 1.27g/t gold. EAS has defined the Upper Tengkereng prospect over approximately 600 by 400 metres, confirming historic work.
The Bahu (P5) prospect contains historic channel samples up to 46.0 metres at 0.75gpt gold and 268 ppm copper.
Initial drilling is planned at these projects during 2008, commencing at the Upper Tengkereng porphyry
